Al Qaeda staat op breken
Dat beweren Amerikaanse experts tenminste.
Dit kon weleens héél goed nieuws zijn:
U.S. counterterrorism officials are increasingly convinced that the killing of Osama bin Laden and the toll of seven years of CIA drone strikes have pushed alQaeda to the brink of collapse.
The assessment reflects a widespread view at the CIA and other agencies that a relatively small number of additional blows could effectively extinguish the Pakistan-based organization that carried out the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks an outcome that was seen as a distant prospect for much of the past decade.
Als dit waar is zou dat natuurlijk een geweldige overwinning voor ons zijn. Aan de andere betekent dat niet dat dus maar op onze lauweren kunnen rusten. Al Qaeda is alles behalve de enige terroristische organisatie die een gevaar vormt voor het westen en / of onze bondgenoten. Denk hierbij bijvoorbeeld aan groepen als Hamas en Hezbollah.
Geweldig mooi als we Al Qaeda kapot maken, maar we kunnen het ons dus niet veroorloven om onze waakzaamheid te verliezen. We moeten het offensief behouden in deze wereldwijde oorlog tegen het terrorisme. Punt.
