Ja hoor, daar zijn ze dan. De Taliban heeft gereageerd op het plan van president Obama om zo snel mogelijk tienduizend troepen terug te trekken uit Afghanistan. Dit omdat deze oorlog 'te duur' zou zijn en men het geld thuis goed kan gebruiken (waarschijnlijk om het zoveelste dure economische plan door het congres te loodsen dat vervolgens de crisis alleen maar erger maakt):
Meanwhile the Taliban are cheering. This clearly is a defeat for the U.S. in Afghanistan, and the start of the return of the Taliban, [its supreme leader] Mullah Omar, and an Islamic sharia state, a senior member of the Talibans military council told The Daily Beast by cell phone from an undisclosed location, declining to be named for security reasons. We cant believe that in the short time of ten years the Taliban are forcing the superpower of the century to pull out its troops. Although that was clearly a wild overstatement, Obamas announcement has certainly given the hard-pressed Taliban a psychological morale boost.
Mooi hoor: de Taliban blij, links Amerika blij - een echte win-win situatie, dus.
Behalve als je een westerling bent die terecht gelooft dat extremisten een gevaar vormen voor de regio en het westen, natuurlijk. Maar ja. Ach. Van dat soort mensen heeft Obama toch geen hoge pet op.
