Weinig ontsnapt aan de tentakels van de anti-rook-maffia, dus ook de Amerikaanse film niet. Hieronder een grafiek van het percentage Amerikaanse films waarin niet gerookt wordt:
The figure above shows the percentage of top-grossing movies with no depiction of tobacco use in the United States during 19912009. The percentage of all top-grossing movies that did not show tobacco use exceeded 50% (51%; 74/145) for the first time in 2009.
Kortom: een duidelijk oplopende trend. Paul Kedrosky stelt echter de meest interessante vraag: What were all those hot smoking movies in 2003?
