Richard Tol: Apocalyps opgeschort
Duitse kwaliteitsmedia beginnen aandacht te schenken aan klimaatscepsis.
Volgens de bovenbazen van de BBC dient klimaatscepticus Lord Lawson te worden gecensureerd. De wetenschapsjournalist Rypke Zeilmaker werd onlangs de toegang tot het FD ontzegd omdat hij voor de hand liggende doch volgens het FD waarschijnlijk 'ontoelaatbare' vragen wilde stellen aan Ed Nijpels, de toezichthouder op de uitvoering van het Energieakkoord. Mij overkwam hetzelfde zo'n tien jaar geleden bij het FD toen ik kritisch ging schrijven over de opwarmingshype. Letter & Geest van Trouw publiceerde vele jaren geleden en een artikel van mij getiteld: 'Het milieumanifest'. Na korte tijd moesten de daarvoor verantwoordelijke redacteuren naar een andere werkkring omzien. En het hoofd van de wetenschapsredactie van de Volkskrant, Martijn van Calmthout, zette mij op zijn zwarte lijst.
Het is slechts een kleine greep uit de talloze voorbeelden van tegenwerking die klimaatsceptici hebben moeten ondervinden van de klimaatinquisitie. Ondertussen ging de klimaatpropaganda op volle toeren door. Orwelliaanse toestanden!
In het 'Klima verrückte' Duitsland beginnen de serieuze media echter nu hun draai te maken.
Onder de titel, 'Leading German Daily: Apocalypse Will Not Take Place Richard Tol: 97% Consensus Does Not Exist!' schreef Pierre Gosselin op zijn blog over een interview van de FAZ met Richard Tol.
The German media are giving time and space to skeptical voices.
The latest is a report appearing in Germanys print high-profile national daily the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) which features climate economist Richard Tol titled: The apocalypse wont take place.
The subheading reads: Climate economist Richard Tol sees the consequences of global warming as manageable he has become a figure of hate for green activists
The FAZ describes the controversial 44-year old Dutch scientist and outspoken IPCC critic as someone who in the early days was quite green, comes from a modest background, but who developed to become one of the worlds leading authorities in his field. The FAZ:
Tol is one of the most productive and most respected researchers in his field. He is (co)author of more than 250 papers in renowned journals and according to the Ideas-Repec databank, among the top 100 scientists worldwide.
The FAZ reports on how Tol believes the IPCC has gone overboard with hysterical scenarios for the future and as a result had his name removed from the IPCCs final report.
On claims that 97% of climate scientists are in agreement, the FAZ writes:
Such a consensus does not exist, he explains. Climate science is very bitter and politicized. He sees the unpleasant tendency of scientists getting more attention by issuing ever more drastic warnings.
According to the FAZ, Tol is confident that humans can overcome the challenges posed by climate change through their uncanny ability to adapt by applying their ingenuity. His come country of Holland is cited as an example with the construction of dikes to hold back the seas. Another example he cites is the huge gain in agricultural yields over the past decades that will provide sample supplies of food in a warmer world.
Overall Tol believes the European Union is on the wrong path with its climate policy of costly subsidies for the feed-in of green energies, which has scarcely has an impact on climate.
It should all be discarded and the ten thousand climate bureaucrats should look for new jobs. We need a policy change
In the FAZ article, Tol is in favour of a carbon tax because in his view it is the only effective measure.

Hoewel mijn trouwe lezers weten dat ik een fan ben van Richard Tol, kan ik hem toch niet volgen wat de CO2- belasting betreft (een maatregel die ook in het recente Energierapport van de Teldersstichting wordt bepleit (vanaf 1.16 u.) - maar geen subsidie van 18 miljard voor wind op zee! Maar daarover later).
Onlangs heeft Arthur Rörsch op dit blog aangegeven (zie hier en hier) waarom CO2 waarschijnlijk een uiterst geringe rol speelt in de opwarming van de aarde, die zo'n 17 jaar geleden is gestopt. En er zijn vele indicaties dat de 'hiatus' nog lang zal duren. De opwarmings'pauze' geeft extra aanleiding om ons te bezinnen op de grondslagen van de AGW-hypothese (AGW='Anthropogenic Global Warming'). We hebben dus ruim de tijd gelukkig! Geen apocalyps! Geen paniek! En géén beleid van 'all pain and no gain'!
