Klimaatredders op heksenjacht
Klimaat geeft aanleiding tot herleving oude Stasi–praktijken.
Eerder rapporteerde ik over een nieuwe georkestreerde heksenjacht op klimaatsceptici, geïnitieerd door de democratische lid van het Amerikaanse congres, Raul Grijalva. Inmiddels heeft de Amerikaanse klimatoloog John Christy, die samen met zijn collega Roy Spencer verantwoordelijk is voor de opstelling van de satelliettemperatuurreeksen van de NASA, daarop gereageerd.
Onder de titel, 'Climate expert John Christy on funding: ‘No one is paying me to have my view’', schreef Paul Gattis:
John Christy, a climate expert at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, said Tuesday that he has not accepted any funding from the fossil fuel industry.
Christy’s response in an interview with AL.com resulted from an inquiry from an Arizona congressman who has asked about Christy’s funding sources as part of a probe of climate change skeptics.
“My response is that I don’t see anything in this letter that challenges the science we produce,” he said. “So therefore, it should not matter where support came from to produce that science. (The Obama) administration believes that if you don’t agree with them about climate change, you must be being paid to have that opinion.
“In my case, they won’t find anything—100 percent of my support is state and federal grants. No one is paying me to have my view. I have my view because I’m a climate scientist and that’s what the data shows.”
U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Arizona, announced last month he was sending letters to seven climate change skeptics in an effort to determine if their positions were defined because they accepted funding from fossil fuel industries. A group of Republican senators, including Alabama’s Jeff Sessions, have questioned the worthiness of the inquiry. ...
Christy said the Obama administration is working to silence those skeptical of dangerous climate change by December in advance of a new global climate agreement. The Grijalva letter is part of that effort, Christy said.

De Amerikaanse heksenjacht is inmiddels ook naar Europa overgewaaid. De Duitse 'Klimaretter' (deze term is niet door mij verzonnen en geen grap!) hebben een algemene oproep op hun website geplaatst met het verzoek om – desgewenst anoniem – belastende informatie over klimaatsceptici in een 'dropbox' te deponeren.
Onder de titel, 'German Climate Witch-Hunting Under New Management … Wanted: “Explosive Material” On Climate Skeptics', schrijft Pierre Gosselin daarover op zijn blog:
In former times, the job of official climate witch-hunting had been one of the German Ministry of Environment, which even went so far as to identify, target and attack skeptic US and German scientists and journalists – all because they held non-alarmist views on climate change. Fortunately that activity turned out to be somewhat embarrassing, and thus the activist Ministry thought that it was best to end it.
But not to worry, the witch-hunting business has found a new home: at the site of the end-of-world climate conspiracy theorists: Klimaretter.info – a leading alarmist site run by a group of highly influential climate doom-infatuated persons.
Klimaretter.info (in English: climate rescuers.info) is now offering a new, very special service to readers: They now have the chance to deliver “explosive disclosure material” on climate skeptics and their clandestine activities at an anonymous letter box: The klimaretter.info site explains:
Here you can discretely and anonymously deposit internal documents, information, data sets, bank accounts, and similar material when you think that the public needs to know about it.”
The klimaretter site even promises that materials will be handled in “strict confidentiality”, and that tracing back to the discloser will not be possible.
Many of us of course will naturally view this as a step back into the old authoritarian, go-after-the-enemy days in darker German times. Is this all they have left? Are they totally bankrupt of argument in the arena of debate that they now have to resort to gutter skimming and dumpster diving? …

Het komt erop neer dat klimaat aanleiding geeft tot herleving van oude Stasi–praktijken. Dat bevestigt maar weer eens dat klimaat meer kapot maakt dan je lief is.
