Zoals altijd, een sterke column van Janet Daley in The Torygraph dit weekeinde. Strekking van haar verhaal: de Duitse bondskanselier Angela Merkel is de enige wereldleider die weigert te geloven in het sprookje van oneindig gratis geld.
Centrale banken hebben de afgelopen jaren voor enkele duizenden miljarden euro's in het bankwezen gepompt, in de hoop daarmee de schuldencrisis te bezweren. Dat is niet gelukt. Zoals de Duitsers stug volhouden: je lost een schuldencrisis niet op door meer schulden op te bouwen. Integendeel. Je maakt het probleem erger.
Probleem voor de rest van de wereld is dat als een land weigert mee te spelen en volhoudt dat de centrale banken gebakken lucht in plaats van waarde verkopen, het hele idee niet opgaat.
