Rand Paul verzet zich tegen NSA-schandaal
Goed zo.
En weer wordt de Republikeinse beweging tégen de NSA geleid door... de libertariër Rand Paul:
The first-term Republican from Kentucky has sought to maintain his fathers libertarian political base while spending months trying to develop relationships with some of his partys more hawkish voices. Yet he carved out a path much more in line with Ron Paul when he filed a bill Friday, in the wake of discomfiting disclosures about the governments database of phone records, to require officials to obtain a warrant for such searches.
"This is an all-out assault on the constitution", zegt Paul.
Het ergste hieraan is dat Paul bepaald niet gesteund wordt door de meerderheid in zijn partij. De neoconservatieven steunen dit soort spionagepraktijken namelijk met passie en geloof. Alles moet wijken voor hun veiligheidsplannen. Ja, ook het recht op privacy.
Schandalig, natuurlijk, maar gelukkig dat er toch nog een man als Rand Paul is, die het lef wél heeft om zich te verzetten tegen dit soort wanstaltige praktijken.
